Barry Ferguson: Hero or Villain

The end of an era is usually a sad occasion, a movement from the comfort and ease of an established position to the optimistic plan for the future. With Barry Ferguson all but signed for Birmingham and his second spell in English Premiership it is a split camp as to whether he is remembered for the good times, the trophies, the goals, the spirit, or whether he is remembered as the man who was stripped of the armband he held for so long.

On occasion you get players that become more than part of the squad, they are raised above the rest and take the spotlight, when this happens it's only a matter of time before the balance has to be restored and the only way to do that is for the player to move on.

There is no question that Barry Ferguson was such a player, captain of club and country, at the club for 15 years, an ever present force in the middle of the park. Since returning from his first spell down south he was the point that the team was built around, he took the responsibility and fair play to him for it.
